Achieving Permanent Weight Loss

How can we succeed in achieving permanent weight loss? We all know that weight loss is only temporary for most of us. We all know that the vast majority of people who lose weight, regain it. And while we know that nobody who loses that weight actually wants to put it back on, somehow we’ve become really good at it. Some of us have spent a lifetime expertly moving between the fit and fat versions of us. We even have the small, medium, large and super large sections in our wardrobes.

The real reason we have difficulty in achieving permanent weight loss is that the majority of us can accept change for a week or even a month or two but we are not prepared to change for a lifetime. Until such time that we are prepared to change our eating habits for a lifetime then we will fail in achieving permanent weight loss.

We all need to lose excess weight for our health. High levels of body fat are closely tied to many of the diseases affecting people today. Size is not always the best way to measure. A large athlete weighs much more than an average person and confounds the various tests dependent upon weight. However, it’s also possible to drop weight without affecting your fat storage too much. This results in sagging skin, no muscle tone, and a level of body fat that leads to a considerable number of health risks. What the body looks like on the outside can be very misleading when looking at muscle to fat ratios.

Weight loss is really an attempt to reduce excess body fat. The answer is to educate each person by attempting to provide a sensible approach to every aspect of weight loss. There is no one ‘magic bullet’ when searching for an answer on how to achieve permanent weight loss. An overall knowledge of all the bodies functions, calorific and fat content of foods, the effect of the glycemic index, what are the right foods to eat to be successful at achieving permanent weight loss and a worthwhile exercise program need all be considered.

Weight loss is best achieved without a do or die outlook. “I just can’t stick to a diet. ” this thinking renders you helpless. People who are easily frustrated tend to want easy solutions. We’re seduced by fad diets because they appeal to that immediacy. Yet people who rely on fad diets suffer high failure rates. When you diet with the short term in mind, you don’t learn strategies that require patience and persistence.

Educate yourself there has never been more facilities available to you in this modern era. Before you spend a fortune on the day’s hottest system, or sign up for the current weight loss program, educate yourself and with permanent changes to your eating habits you could be well on the road to achieving permanent weight loss without a lot of out of pocket expense.
